Just in time for the Football World Cup 2014, a German author presents his book about the best wing forwards in history. Hermann Schmidt portrays stars of the past like Hans Schäfer and Lothar Emmerich but also heroes of soccer fans today: Cristiano Ronaldo, Marco Reus, Franck Ribery and Lukas Podolski. However, Schmidt does not just focus on the strengths of 56 left-footed strikers and attacking midfielders. The author of several books about Hamburg football club St. Pauli also considered players with a left-wing political attitude like Arminia Bielefeld legend Ewald Lienen and ex-Livorno striker Christiano Lucarelli. Furthermore, his book features an article about Alfred Körner, one of the best Austrian players of all time and member of the country’s 1954 World Cup squad.

“Venedig abseits der Pfade” is anything but an ordinary travel guide. Wolfgang Salomon’s book takes visitors off the well-trodden paths to show them some of the city’s secret beauty spots. Salomon writes about spectacular abbeys, picturesque squares, a Jewish cemetery and excellent restaurants. His book, which includes several outstanding black and white photos, has the potential to become a reliable assistant through the busy masses of tourists in the labyrinth of the fascinating ‘lagoon city’. Both of his most recent books – the 170-page publication “Venedig abseits der Pfade” and “Triest abseits der Pfade”, a special guide to the city of Trieste – have become bestsellers in Austria.
