Many conversation with working class members, referees and former professional players. Long journeys throughout the country. A collection of impressive pictures. These are the ingredients of Alois Gstöttner’s n new book about Brazil.
The Austrian journalist aimed at creating a realistic picture of the great South American country. Now that the world is holding its breath as the Football World Cup enters its decisive stage, a high level of attention is assured for “Gooool do Brasil”.
The book – which is out now – contains stories about beauty contests and kids fighting for their dream to become professional soccer players. Gstöttner’s photographs add that certain something to his Brazil kaleidoscope. On his images, special police units, young men playing football on the beach and radio commentators at work are all portrayed.
There is some serious competition for authors at the moment as lots of writers had the same idea: publishing a book just before the World Cup kick-off. Nevertheless, authors like Gstöttner deserve acknowledgement for their immense efforts.
