Rapid – Red Bull showdown on Sunday

Rapid Vienna are under pressure as Red Bull Salzburg are determined to expand their lead.

The Green-Whites, whose home matches are currently taking place at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium, are facing the leaders of the Bundesliga tomorrow (Sunday). Red Bull are already four points ahead. With only eight matches to play this season, tomorrow’s clash is concerned as the home side’s final chance to remain a serious contender for the title.

SK Rapid open their new stadium in Hütteldorf this summer. Fans hoped to return to their tradition-rich soil in western Vienna with the Bundesliga trophy. However, after failing to win any of the past three league matches, the team managed by Zoran Barisic must take immense risks tomorrow (kickoff: 3pm).

At the same time, the Bulls look more confident than last autumn. Having carried out certain strategic changes in their game, new coach Oscar Garcia sees improvement and more confidence as the outstanding performances of players like Naby Keita are acknowledged by renowned clubs from England and Germany. In the past few years, Salzburg had to let some of their best players go. Sadio Mane joined Southampton while Marcel Sabitzer and Stefan Ilsanker were signed by RB Leipzig.
